Position Description:

YWCA Tulsa has offered innovative and inclusive services to the immigrant and refugee community of Tulsa for over 35 years. Services include English language and citizenship classes, refugee social services with a focus on employment, interpretation and translation services, youth education, community education, and high-quality, low-cost immigration legal services. Services are provided by a multicultural and multilingual staff with first language proficiency in Arabic, Burmese, Zomi, Russian and Spanish.

Our immigration legal team, comprised of our managing attorney, three partially DOJ-accredited representatives and a staff attorney, provides affirmative immigration services, pro se services through workshops, and community education to expand access to legal information and services.

The Staff Attorney will provide legal representation and advocacy on a variety of affirmative legal immigration matters, including but not limited to: U.S. citizenship, petitions for alien relatives, family-based immigrant visas, renewal and replacement of lawful permanent residency, deferred action, humanitarian relief, and related types of cases. The Staff Attorney will carry their own caseload with increasing complexity under the supervision of the Immigration Program Manager. The Staff Attorney will assist with community education, workshops, technical assistance, and advocacy on matters related to immigration laws and policies.

Required Skills:

• Excellent decision-making skills.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office—Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience with immigration case management systems preferred.
• Must be an advocate for the mission, values and goals of the YWCA Tulsa.
• Work effectively with all employees and members of all races, religions, sexes, national origins, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions; and without regard to disability status, genetic information, marital status, or status as a covered veteran.
• Work on skills that can help communicate her/his point to an audience belonging to a completely different identity and/or background. These differences can be identity-based, geographical, ethical, political, or historical.
• Strong commitment to learning, growth, and continuous improvement.
• Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and insurance verification and ability to travel locally and non-locally.

Required Experience:

J.D. Law Degree and admission to a State Bar. Oklahoma license preferred.
Relevant immigration law experience or law school clinic experience preferred.
Experience working with diverse communities.
Fluency or proficiency in English and a second language. Spanish preferred.
