The Tulsa County Bar Foundation, through its educational and charitable efforts, is continuing to expand our role of keeping the legal system accessible.

By providing seminars on topics of concern to public, the Foundation not only informs citizens concerning their rights, but also educates on the role of the judicial system an the use of alternative forms of the judicial system and the use of alternative forms of dispute resolution as a means to settle and resolve their disputes. The Foundation also sponsors and promotes the annual Law Week, its most visible public event. Activities include a law fair, court tours, mock trials, school poster contest, and speakers for school and civic groups. The Ask-A-Lawyer and Lawyer in the Library programs allows the public access to a lawyer for answers to legal questions without legal expense.

Through charitable donations to organizations such as Legal Services of Eastern Oklahoma and the TU Law Clinic, the Foundation fills a critical need in the community in assuring that those individuals in need of legal assistance have a place to turn regardless of financial ability.

The Tulsa County Bar Foundation is authorized to fund law school scholarships of up to $2,500 per individual per year. The scholarships are intended for the benefit of law students in or from Tulsa County who are accepted to an ABA-accredited law school. The scholarships are offered and administered without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender or disability.

The Tulsa County Bar Foundation (“TCBF” – a 501(C)(3) organization) holds one major fundraiser each year, a Charity Golf Tournament. This fundraising event promotes fellowship and networking among the legal professional community, while supporting predetermined, approved charities. We host 36 teams for a total of 144 golfers.  Our beneficiaries are the Disabled American Veterans, Tulsa Lawyers for Children, South Tulsa Community House, and Community Outreach programs of the Tulsa County Bar.

The TCBF Community Outreach Committee provides volunteer lawyers to charitable or civic organizations and supports community projects including Habitat for Humanity and The Day Center for the Homeless. Annual service projects include “Santa Brings a Law Suit,” a professional clothing drive, and the “Welcome Home Project,” a household item drive benefiting the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless. The Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless helps find safe, affordable housing for the homeless in our community. This is an opportunity to provide assistance and support to families and individuals making the transition from the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless to their own homes or apartments. The Community Outreach Committee helps provide each new household with basic items for their new home.

Law Day was conceived by the late Hicks Epton, a Wewoka attorney and past president of the Oklahoma Bar Association. President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day nationally by presidential proclamation in 1958. On this occasion, he said, “It is fitting that the American people should remember with pride and vigilantly guard the great heritage of liberty, justice and quality under law. It is our moral and civil obligation as free men and as Americans to preserve and strengthen that great heritage.”
